We Are Menzies Awards - Fuel Farm of the Year: Los Angeles, USA

1 September 2022

Congratulations to Los Angeles, winners of the Fuel Farm of the Year. The team of 39 colleagues currently average approximately 31.5 million gallons a week, which is around 77% of pre-covid throughput. The team serves 68 airline members of the LAXFUEL consortium operated by Menzies.

Enrique Gayton, General Manager LAX Fuel Farm describes the highlights and challenges the station faced in 2021:

“The resilience and commitment shown by the team during the second year of Covid-19 challenges are a testament to their dedication. Our station was able to respond to the return of fuel throughput of nearly 4.5 million gallons per day, which built back up throughout 2021, due to the stability and experience of our entire group.

"As well as throughput increasing, in 2021 we had record levels of regulatory compliance inspections and airline audits, and construction projects throughout the airport. Our performance was exemplary with minimal comments from audits and the team supporting complex projects at Terminals 3, 4, 5, and 6, as well as the Tom Bradley International Terminal and new Midfield Satellite Concourse.

"2021 also ushered in a period of unprecedented cargo flight operations, served by refueler trucks loading at the two LAXFUEL remote truck racks. The almost doubling of cargo flight volumes at LAX resulted in close to 30 million gallons delivered monthly by refueler trucks to support this important airline service.

"In 2021 we completed a Facilities Improvement Plan that will update equipment, controls and the design of the facility to help prepare for the next 30 years. We look forward to continuing to work on new and continuing challenges that always come up at LAX and which will be met competently as always by the Menzies Team at LAXFUEL.

"Last year proved to be one of the most challenging and rewarding years of our tenure. Our personnel have not only met the challenges but continue giving Menzies/LAXFUEL their best. We are humbled and honored to be recognized among such a distinguished and impressive network of colleagues.”
