Say hello to Michael Tipple, Gate Co-Ordinator at Edinburgh Airport (EDI).

With responsibility for overseeing smooth and efficient aircraft turnarounds, Michael plays a crucial role in ensuring every flight is ready for its take-off after arriving at the airport. Serving multiple airlines is all part of Michael’s daily routine, overseeing flights run by Lufthansa, British Airlines, United Airlines, and more. ✈️

Since joining Menzies seven years ago, Michael has worked in variety of roles including Dispatcher, Ops Trainer and Front of House Duty Manager. He appreciates how the company has demonstrated its commitment to the employees work-life balance, saying: “While Menzies will always help you climb the career ladder as high as you want to go, it is also very good at recognising the importance of a healthy work-life balance, which for me means being able to work part-time”.

Before joining Menzies, Michael had a successful career in the Royal Navy. He says that aviation is an excellent industry for ex-service personnel to join: “There are a number of veterans working at EDI, which is no coincidence. From the ability to work under pressure to being able to effectively follow instructions, there are clear parallels between serving in the military and working in aviation”.
