We Are Menzies Awards, Fuel Farm of the Year: Palm Beach, USA
19 May 2023
Each month over nine million gallons of fuel and 3,000 flights go through Palm Beach International Airport. All fuel is delivered by tanker truck and can reach as many as 36 loads per day in the peak season. In order to accommodate this volume of traffic, the Fuel Storage Facility operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Christopher Lones, General Manager, shared more about the station: “We always look to improve the operation and condition of the facility, never accepting the status quo. As Randy Davies, SVP Fuels Americas likes to say, ‘look at the crooked pictures’ meaning take the time to stop and evaluate those things which we see every day in our operations that aren’t quite right, instead of walking by without challenging them. If we fail to do this, those same crooked pictures can begin to appear straight, thus becoming the norm.
“Following this mantra, we take great pride in the upkeep of our facility which is maintained to the highest standards possible. I know this shows and it is appreciated by our employees and the numerous visitors that come through the facility year after year.
“Looking forward into 2023, we’re focused on improving the safety and quality of the operation. We have a major project to make strides towards achieving this goal, which will create a more positive work environment, and ultimately help Palm Beach International Airport to meet its future expansion efforts and the needs of its stakeholders.
“Being named the Fuel Farm of the Year, it’s always great to be noticed for the work we do. The whole team takes immense pride in our facility and considers it to be a Menzies Showcase. Our team won this award through all their hard work, attention to safety and following the proper processes. No shortcuts and no crooked pictures.”
