Gatwick checks in for International Women's Day

9 March 2023

London Gatwick’s planned female-led turn was disrupted due to weather but they found a workaround and with a female check-in and boarding team, including two female supervisors.

The team

  • Karen Collins, Customer Operations Agent has worked at London Gatwick since 1995 and joined Menzies in September 2008
  • Dorinda Webster, Customer Operations Agent has been with Menzies Aviation for almost four years
  • Lauren Coomber, Customer Operations Supervisor joined Menzies in 2016 and was promoted into a supervisor role in 2022

International Women’s Day and allyship
Emily Moyo, Customer Operations Manager asked the team for their thoughts on International Women’s Day and allyship.

“They all agree that no two days are the same in our team - every day is different and interesting and we all enjoy the variety that comes with airport life.

International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise and celebrate women and how far they have come.

For our customer operations agents, they see the benefits of allyship daily, as they rely on everyone in the team to work together to get the job done.

Lauren also shared that she believes allies are important amongst the team as it’s important to gain the respect of your team to work effectively. The same is true for the Front of House leadership team – the supervisors, duty managers, and head of department all need a level of allyship, to support each other. Teamwork is key.”
