We Are Menzies Awards - ITP Operation of the Year, Baltimore USA

5 September 2022

Congratulations to Baltimore for winning the ITP Operation of the Year. The team grew from 89 to 125 colleagues in 2021 and pumped approximately 63 million gallons of Jet A fue   l in 2021.

Until earlier this year, they had two scheduled carriers and 4 passenger turns per week. Since May 2022, that has increased to eight carriers, with 42 turns per week. Baltimore also handles, on average, about 15 charters a month, including Major League Baseball, NFL Football, NCAA colleges sports teams, Casino charters, military charters, bands, Honor Flights, and many, many more. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, charter flights were a big part of their operation, with many Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and PPE charters.

Susan Whelan, General Manager, shares her thoughts, “This team exemplifies the no-quit mindset. No matter the challenge, and there have been many outside their control, they step up and get the job done. Each and every team member has our customers’ back because they know that I have theirs. Each team member brings strength to the group, and when combined, they are unstoppable. I have never been prouder of this group of aviation professionals.

“Our biggest achievement in 2021 was taking on the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis and making it into a success story. We did not sit back and say, well this is out of our hands. Our station may have won the ITP award, but we shared the celebration for the entire station. Due to the loss of so many flights and employees, we had to get creative. We cross-trained colleagues from other business units to cover the loss of so many teammates. We now have passenger service agents trained as ramp and dispatch, we have some ramp trained as fuelers and pax service, we have mechanics trained at ramp, deicers, and fuelers and we have deicers trained in pax service, ramp, and fueling. ITP may have won the award but it was entirely a group effort.”
