All In for Earth Day every day
21 April 2022
We launched All In, our plan for a fair and sustainable future, nearly a year ago and have been taking action to make a positive difference for people and the planet.
To mark Earth Day on Friday 22 April, we have three things we can do as a team to reduce our impact on the planet. Small acts combined can make a big difference locally and globally.
Paper
Think before you print and if you do, make it double sided and black and white instead of colour. We measure paper use across the whole company in numbers of trees consumed, each week. Our Go Paperless initiative is reducing paper across our network and we’re working with customers to digitise processes instead of printing paper.
Power
It sounds easy, but switching off lights when you leave a room and shutting down your laptop, computer or anything not in use at the end of the day will help reduce our energy use.
Idling
If you’re driving ground service equipment (GSE) remember to turn off the engine when not in use to reduce carbon emissions. Our team at London Heathrow Airport reduced idling by 20% over a fourth-month period which resulted in 1 tonne of CO2 emissions being prevented and 370 litres of diesel saved. They did this by using telematics in 57 GSE to record idling, which encouraged drivers to switch off the engine.
