Menzies drives towards zero damage

9 March 2021

Earlier this year, Group Risk refreshed the Menzies driving standards programme known as MDRIVE. The standards, which are easy to remember, should be followed by anyone who is required to drive a vehicle – airside or landside – and are designed to help prevent incidents and injuries.

Since 1 March, the Risk teams have been following up with inspections to make sure that the standards are understood and, more importantly, being followed. Using the award-winning SMART app, inspections monitor five key functions:

  1. Pushback
  2. Steps
  3. Beltloaders
  4. Loaders
  5. Fuelling
  6. Deicing

Graham Cowing, Group Safety Standards, joined the team at London Heathrow to support on the SMART inspections, “Across the company we’ve already carried out more than 130 inspections and there are some really positive results in some of our stations. Keeping awareness of the MDRIVE standards high, coaching where applicable, recognising positive behaviours and carrying out regular inspections will help us drive continuous improvement and ultimately a reduction in incidents to our goal of zero damage”

Operations teams have been briefed by local Health, Safety and Security representatives and a new poster campaign has been designed to keep the standards front-of-mind for employees.
