Congratulations to the Menzies Group Risk Team, for the ‘excellence’ innovation on the SMART App that has been shortlisted for this year’s GHI Pride of Ground Handling Ramp Safety Award!

Designed and built by Menzies, the SMART App is an inspection tool used to monitor conformance with operating procedures and training effectiveness. What’s special and unique is the recognition feature which managers/inspectors can use to recognise good safety behaviour when colleagues do something special or go above and beyond.

Yogesh Parekh, SVP Risk explains: “In our industry competence is expected but excellence is a choice and a true differentiator amongst competitors. Competence is the level to which you are trained. Excellence is a personal choice that goes beyond competence. These excellence nominations are a testament that our People are Passionate and take Pride in what they do to combat COVID”.

This year more than 1,000 excellence nominations have been made! These range from leading by example on safety/security processes and good hygiene ambassadors, promoting and encouraging social distancing and offering above-and-beyond support to customers.

The top three reasons for making an ‘excellence’ nomination in 2020 are:

• Coronavirus prevention: 27%
• Exceptional customer service: 16%
• Following safety processes and avoiding complacency: 13%

The personal recognition works alongside findings to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
