Andrew Chin – Teamwork Global Winner 2023

Orlando experienced direct impacts from two major hurricanes in 2022 and Andrew's nomination describes the actions he took during hurricane Ian. Andrew reported to work for the hurricane team with the General Manager and remained at work for two and a half days coordinating field activities to aid the recovery of the airport so operations could restart the following day. This included recovering more than 50,000 gallons of petroleum contact water from 310 hydrant pits and approximately 20 vaults. All facility fuel tanks had to be checked for free water and cleared before operations could restart.

Andrew Chin, Assistant Manager at Orlando (MCO) has been with Menzies for five years and was our 2023 global winner for Teamwork for his commitment to his team and station to co-ordinate the station recovery efforts following a hurricane.

We’re open and honest in all we say and do, creating trust, and growing our reputation for high standards.

We have a clear code of conduct which every member of the Menzies Aviation team is expected to know and follow carefully at all times.

We understand that integrity is simply doing the right thing. Sometimes this can take courage, but it’s always worth the effort.

We don’t claim to be perfect, no one gets things right 100 per cent of the time, but when we do make mistakes we’re the first to admit and learn from them.

We talk straight, stick to our commitments, lead by example, and treat others as we want to be treated.

Kelly-Anne Scott – Integrity Global Winner 2023

Kelly-Anne was nominated for her commitment to integrity when she spotted and reported suspicious import cargo activity to Australian Borderwatch. This referral led to the successful discovery of a large amount of undeclared tobacco which was confiscated by Australian Border Force.

About Kelly-Anne
After joining Brisbane Cargo five years ago as a cargo flight clerk, Kelly-Anne took on the portfolio of key account contact for Cathay Pacific Cargo in August 2021 and attained the licence of a 747 Freighter Ramp Coordinator. Kelly-Anne has assisted other ports in the region with flight operations and training and in March 2022, was appointed a Cargo Supervisor with responsibilities across the business.

Every day is different; we have the energy and expertise to respond successfully to any situation.

We know that aviation is an ever-changing environment and we are always prepared to react quickly when new challenges and opportunities present themselves.

We take change in our stride, with flexibility and composure, keeping our cool under pressure, and seeing every job through to the end.

We are resilient, pragmatic and creative, always thinking on our feet to get the job done right.

Selmy Celis – Agility Global Winner 2023

Selmy received a call informing her that a flight from Cozumel to Dallas Fort Worth was going to be cancelled since the first officer’s time allowance would expire while the flight was in the air. Demonstrating quick thinking, Selmy asked dispatch if the first officer’s time would allow him to complete a flight going to Miami which was preparing to depart. After confirming it was an option, Selmy spoke to the captain, got authorisation for the swap and the first officers switched aircraft. As explained in her nomination, Selmy’s quick thinking had a great result, “The flight left on time, the passengers did not miss their flight or connections and the company had no losses - all due to the speed of an intelligent solution saving the day for many.”

Lauren Gleeson – Customer Focus Global Winner 2023

Lauren Gleeson, our global winner for Customer Focus for showing care and going the extra mile for our customers’ airline crew when they experienced issues with catering.As a midnight departure time approached for a Qatar freighter travelling to Doha, Lauren was advised that the catering company wasn’t able to supply catering for the flight. To prevent the flight from being cancelled, Lauren drove to the nearest after-hours service station to purchase food and drink, at her own expense, for the crew and the flight was able to depart.
