Our AvGeek of the Week is...
3 March 2025
A huge thank you to everyone who submitted an entry to this week’s AvGeek of the Week. We’ve been blown away by how this competition has taken off (excuse the pun!) 🛫
🤩 The judging panel was blown away by so many sensational entries and selecting a winner was no easy task.
🎉 Congratulations to our next AvGeek of the Week, Eric Esots!
Eric, a Ramp Supervisor at Adelaide Airport (ADL) in Australia, joined Menzies five years ago and describes himself as “a planespotter and certainly an AvGeek!” ✈️
Eric’s email entry captures VH-OEH, a Qantas Boeing 747-400 arriving at Sydney Airport (SYD) back in 2019.
What makes this image so special (aside from being a great photo)? 🤔
“At the time I didn't think too much of it, but looking back on it from a post-Covid perspective, I recognise how lucky I was to snap a photo of the "Queen of the Skies" in my national carrier's colours, in such fantastic light and with the backdrop of Australia's most iconic - in my opinion - ATC tower! To me, it highlights how much can change in the space of just five years, that the sight of these is now unfortunately a distant memory” Eric said.
Post-pandemic, VH-OEH is now listed as being in storage and with the status of the aircraft unknown, we’d like to thank Eric for sharing such a special moment. ✨
Congratulations, Eric. We hope you wear your Menzies AvGeek pin badge with pride. 🩵
Could you be our next AvGeek of the Week?
Don’t worry if you didn’t win this time as the competition will run every week. You can enter the same photo more than once or choose to submit another image from your collection. 📸
Look out for the next opportunity to take part - coming soon!
