My top three Davos takeaways - Hassan El-Houry, Executive Chairman

29 January 2025

It was an honour to attend my 11th World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland last week - my third time representing Menzies.

It was energising to reconnect with familiar faces, build new relationships, and dive into thought provoking discussions that will shape the future of aviation and global economic trends.

As I leave Davos feeling inspired and optimistic about the future, I would like to take this opportunity to share some thoughts with you. These are my top three takeaways for both our business and the wider aviation sector:

  • The US remains the world’s largest aviation market, and its economic trajectory has global implications. This was a key topic of discussion, reinforcing our commitment to continued investment and growth in this crucial region.
  • Sustainability is at the forefront of industry conversations. Topics like alternative fuel sources, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and their impact on airports and airlines took centre stage. Innovation in this area will define the next chapter for aviation.
  • Business has an important role in fostering innovation, creating jobs, and driving positive change. Inclusive practices, treating employees with respect and dignity, and fostering empowerment were emphasised as cornerstones of impactful business leadership.

Above all, Davos reaffirmed the power of collaboration by providing an opportunity to dive into thought provoking discussions that will shape the future of aviation.

Now is the time to turn these insights into action. Let us continue working together to maintain our position at the forefront of progress and innovation, shaping the way forward.
