Throwback Thursday: Laying the foundations for a safe and successful year

27 February 2025

This Throwback Thursday, we’re visiting our colleagues in Macau to hear how they celebrated the Lunar New Year.

On the second day of Lunar New Year, communities will often come together to undertake the practice of worshipping. They do so by offering sacrifices and prayers to the deities, seeking their favour and protection.

Terence Ng, Sustainability and Development Manager at Menzies Macau provided some further insight into the occasion, saying: “This practice, deeply rooted in Chinese culture, is believed to ensure a prosperous and secure year ahead. It’s not just a religious act, but an opportunity for reinforcing social ties and cultural values.”

Last month, our team in Macau followed this tradition by hosting a gathering, where colleagues from different departments came together in the spirit of unity and shared purpose. It was not only an opportunity to symbolise their commitment to working collaboratively, but also a chance to focus on the importance of safety.

By encouraging everyone to be more vigilant and proactive in identifying and addressing potential hazards, their Lunar New Year celebration was just one of the many ways our Macau team lay the foundations for a safe and successful year.
