Smithys Stompers smash 24 hour relay for cancer research

4 September 2023

The John Maxwell Menzies (JMM) Community Fund was delighted to sponsor Smithys Stompers as they took on the Isle of Man Relay for Life, where teams take it in turns to complete laps of the track for 24 hours to fundraise for life-saving cancer research.

The team of eight – Smithys Stompers – was assembled by Sharon Langley, following the sudden passing of her partner. Sharon recently left Menzies after 11 years to pursue her health and safety career, but there was no stopping her from captaining the team to raise as much money as possible to fight cancer.

Kelly Kearsley, Ramp Trainer at Isle of Man and one of the team members, shared more about the event, “We held a car boot sale to raise money and had tombola and raffle prizes throughout the weekend. We had an amazing day and we’re in the top 10 teams for funds raised so far – we want to raise as much money as we can for vital research into this awful disease.”

If you would like to support the team, you can make a donation on their fundraising page until the end of September.
