In 2023 we set new net-zero targets and to reduce the amount we print by 15%.

In 2022 we printed a total of 28,524,079 pages.

From January - October 2023, we printed 34,796,944 pages - we have increased the amount we print by 22%, with two months still to account for.

From January-October 2023, printing has also resulted in:

• 12.8 million print jobs
• 4,019 trees consumed
• 425,437kg CO2 produced

We have already consumed more trees and produced more CO2 than we did in 2022.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impacts and supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action, however, our current printing trends aren’t reflecting this.

We monitor printing every week across the business, tracking how much we are printing and why we are printing. We will soon begin sharing a monthly update with our senior leaders and station managers on how we are tracking at each location, and identifying where we can aim to make the most change.

We will work with our customers to find ways to reduce the documents they ask us to print.

How can you help?
Before you click ‘Print,’ consider the following:

• Do you really need to print?
• If your content is available online, do you need to print it as well?
• If you absolutely do need to print, choose double-sided and in black-and-white.

Make sure you familiarise yourself with the current and planned ways we can reduce printing:

• RSMS Mobile
• Online learning and employee onboarding processes
• MS Teams
• Kronos App – employees can access rosters, request leave and add missed punches electronically instead of on paper forms
• MARS Employee Portal for read & signs, shift bids and shift swaps is moving to digital
• In Cargo, we are distinguishing document packs, already live at some stations
• We’ll be digitising more of our processes and comms, e.g. digital manifest archives, and working with airlines on more shared paper processes.

We must all work together to reduce printing and minimise our environmental impacts.
