Breaking the bias in Cairns for International Women's Day

8 March 2022

The Menzies team in Cairns, Australia celebrated International Women’s Day with an all-women team across the entire airport.

The all-women ramp team ensured the safe and on-time departure of the first Qantas and QantasLink flights of the day. In Cairns, 9% of the ramp team are women. The ramp team then worked with the passenger services and air cargo teams to handle the early departure of a Virgin Australia flight to Brisbane.

Nicholas Trueman, Ground Handling Manager – Cairns, Menzies Aviation said: “At Menzies we want everyone to bring their whole selves to work and to achieve their maximum potential, regardless of their identity or background. While International Women’s Day is great, we think women should be supported to reach their full potential every day. We’re really proud of our all-women Cairns team who showed that anyone can break the bias and work in what has traditionally been a male dominated industry.”
