Microsoft Teams brings benefits to London Gatwick

15 June 2021

Following the news that we’re investing in Microsoft Teams for all operational business units across Europe, Alda Pinto (Station Manager) told us how Teams has made a difference at London Gatwick.

“Everyone at Gatwick was given access to Teams in April and it’s working really well,” she says. “More than half of the people who work here are already active and we’re supporting everyone else in getting up-and-running.”

We use Teams for a weekly call that’s usually attended by more than 70 people. When it first started there were only about 15 people on the call. The weekly virtual meetings really help us feel part of a team – it’s the next best thing to being together in a room.”

London Gatwick has been badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and as a result, some colleagues haven’t seen each other for almost 18 months. Microsoft Teams is “helping shorten the distance,” according to Alda. “We even use Teams to keep in contact with colleague John Pratt, who has been in Pakistan working with RAS on the joint venture start up.”

As well as getting the team together for weekly meetings, Alda has been using Teams to hold welfare meetings, run training sessions and meet with customers online. “We’re all learning,” she says, “it’s not easy for everyone to use new technology like this, but we’ve been helping each other to get the hang of the new way of working.”
