UK National Apprenticeships Week: Mariusz Meca

8 February 2021

In the UK it is National Apprenticeships Week, and we’re celebrating the hard work and achievements of three Menzies apprentices: Mariusz Meca, Caroline English and Derrick Rabey.

Mariusz Meca works in Operations at London Heathrow as a senior dispatcher. He’s doing an apprenticeship in Leadership & Management and will receive his qualification from Uxbridge College, London.

We talked to Mariusz about why he wanted to start an apprenticeship with Menzies; “There were two key reasons behind my interest in completing an apprenticeship. The first was to improve my English, the second - and equally important to me - was to expand my career opportunities by gaining a qualification and without having to take out student loans.”

The experience has helped Mariusz to grow his network and learn about managing his time and he’s also discovered how transferable his existing skills are. And he’s been challenged too – when he started out he felt he had to prove to himself that he deserved to be taking part in the apprenticeship. Mariusz says he has learned an “overwhelming” amount about himself and that the most rewarding thing has been learning new things.

“Learning new skills can make you more rounded but it has been shown to be good for my health ! I was simply happy to be in a class and enjoy the company of my fellow students and teachers. It has been fun to learn through my own experience and the experience of others.”
