Going for green in Oslo
25 February 2021
Today we’ve announced that we’re trialling a new electrically operated de-icing unit at Oslo Airport. The new equipment is the Vestergaard Elephant® e-BETA, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 87% per truck per year.
The trial is the first of its kind in Europe and the second globally. It marks a significant step forward in sustainable ground handling and complements our ‘Go Green’ project which was set up in Oslo in 2018. Through this initiative, we’ve already replaced 90% of ramp equipment with electric units. If the trial is successful and we adopt the Vestergaard Elephant® e-BETA 97% of our GSE at Olso will be electric.
Thomas Hoff Andersson, Vice President Northern Europe says; “We’re proud to be working with Vestergaard Company to pioneer this sustainable ground handling solution, which builds on the progress achieved through our ‘Go Green’ project. The successful trial of this electrically-driven de-icer promises to bolster not only the sustainability of our de-icing operations at Oslo Airport, but the sustainability of the industry at large.”
