Menzies Aviation wins five year contract with Avianca

20 April 2021

We’ve just announced a five-year cargo contract with Avianca and Miami International Airport (MIA), and it’s one of the most significant wins in the history of our cargo business.

Avianca operates from a 21,000m2 warehouse at MIA and process around 250,000 tonnes of cargo every year. A team of 300 Menzies employees will take responsibility for the operation next month. Preparations for the May start-up are already underway with the close involvement of Avianca, a cross-functional team from Menzies and Raul Barrera (SVP – Business Development for the Americas) who played a central role in winning the contract.

John Redmond, Executive Vice President – Americas, said; “We are so proud that Avianca has selected us to be their cargo handling partner at their Miami hub, which is a large-scale and complex operation. This award marks a major milestone, not only for our cargo operations in the US but globally, and represents Avianca’s great confidence in Menzies’ excellent standards and ability to provide a quality service that is safe, secure and consistent.”

MIA is a strategically important cargo gateway for Avianca, who import huge volumes of fresh produce into the USA as well as exporting a range of commodity items internationally.

The win supports our business growth strategy.
