Creating strong passwords
6 October 2025
Passwords protect your devices, accounts, and data. A strong password keeps your personal and work information safe and lowers the chance of identity theft.
To stay safe, use passwords that are easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. Weak or reused passwords can leave you at risk.
Make strong, unique passwords
- Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
- Make passwords at least 12 characters long
- Don’t use names, birthdays, or simple patterns like 123456 or qwerty
- Use a different password for each account
- Reusing passwords is risky because if one is hacked, others can be too
- Don’t use work passwords for personal accounts like Facebook or email.
Keep passwords secret
- Don’t share your password, even with coworkers or the IT team
- If someone needs access, use the proper request process.
