Thinking outside the box
3 November 2025
Rory Fidler, Senior Vice President Cargo Technology recently shared the story behind our new MACH cargo management system. 🗣️
Here are five things we thought you’d like to know:
1️⃣ The global cargo landscape is changing. We must be agile and adapt to continue providing the high-quality services our customers expect.
2️⃣ Legacy systems might be reliable, but they were beginning to hold us back. They limited our ability to be agile, so we needed a new, modern solution.
3️⃣ We worked with Wipro to build MACH, a cargo system that is specific to our needs –unlike traditional systems that are built for use by airlines.
4️⃣ MACH helps us create our own ‘Starbucks model’. This means that whether a customer walks into a cargo shed in Auckland or Heathrow, they get the same standard of service and documentation.
5️⃣ Building our own cargo system was a bold move, but it’s paying off. We’re more unified, efficient, and have more control over future cargo technology upgrades.
Since its launch, we’ve deployed MACH to 43 stations, with a total of 47 stations projected to go live by the end of 2025. Once rollout is complete, over 90% of our global cargo tonnage will run through this system. As you can see, building MACH required some serious thinking outside the box. 💭📦
