Edinburgh Remembrance Day

15 November 2023

Our Edinburgh team marked Remembrance Day with a lunch for veterans and reservists. Veterans from the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force attended, as well as a current Army reservist.

Michael Tipple served 24 years in the Royal Navy, “I was a Naval Airman(Aircraft Handler), a Writer and then a Chief Petty Officer. I served on several ships, including HMS Hecla, HMS Ocean, HMAS Sydney and 826 Naval Air Squadron. I served overseas in USA & Australia as well as visiting 40+ other countries.”

Billy Baldwin, Training Officer shared more about his time in the Army, “I left Cyprus as a spotty 17-year-old and joined the Army. After training, I joined my unit, the parachute regiment, for 12 years. I travelled to many places in the world and fought in the south Atlantic, the Falkland Islands and served in Northern Ireland on a few tours.

“It's great to see Menzies Aviation recognising veterans by providing a lunch get-together before Remembrance Day. We had a good catch-up military style, swapping war stories.

“We will always remember our friends from all the services who lost their lives in conflict around the world and are unable to join us now. As we approach Christmas, it’s a very emotional period for families who lost loved ones.

“We will not forget.”
