Pride Month 2023

30 June 2023

Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and how in some places there's still work to be done. It is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride Month began after the Stonewall Riots, protests that took place in 1969 in the USA, that changed gay rights for a lot of people in America and around the world.

We are committed to having a diverse workforce and creating a workplace that promotes mutual trust and respect. We want Menzies to be an organisation where everyone is welcome, included and accepted.

We’re delighted to share some of the Pride celebrations and reflections from around Menzies. If you celebrated Pride at your station, please send your photos to Internal Communications.

London Heathrow

"We celebrated Pride Month 2023, by asking the team to exchange their Menzies polo tops for the colours of the Pride flag to celebrate love, equality, respect, freedom, tolerance and pride.

"It was a fun day of discussions and bringing the team together at the end of the shift with a wonderful cake that was enjoyed by everyone."

Terri Jones, Presentation Manager BA Ultra Clean, London Heathrow

"We shared Menzies Pride pins in all our departments to get conversations started - it's good to talk about inclusion as we work in such a diverse environment.

"Front of House T2 celebrated inclusion and diversity with some conversations with the teams. On 20 June, Frank Dobbelstejin, Vice President London Heathrow and Bill Ward, General Manager Customer Service London Heathrow, joined us and we celebrated with a cake!"

London Gatwick

"A successful pride day at Gatwick! We celebrated diversity, inclusion, and acceptance today with some treats in the crew rooms! 😊

"The team were really engaged and some even shared some personal stories. Pride stickers were worn with pride around the crew rooms and beyond and David even sported rainbow socks for the occasion!!!"

London Heathrow Cargo

"We celebrated Pride because we wanted to acknowledge the efforts made in the 1969 stonewall riots that helped the road to equality for the (LGBTQ) community, and also to show that Menzies Cargo is an equal opportunity employer. We are interested in who you are, and how you do the job, however you identify."
