Paper challenge on World Environment Day
5 June 2023
Did you know? In 2022 we printed a colossal 28m+ pages:
= 11m+ print jobs
= 2,990 trees consumed
= 318 tonnes CO2
Every time we print, there is an environmental cost, as well as financial one:
- Energy used to power the printer = CO2e emissions
- Chemicals, metals and plastics used in toner cartridges
- Trees cut down to make the paper
- Paper and toner waste
We are setting new net zero targets and are committed to reducing our environmental impacts and supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action.
Our target is to reduce printing by 15%+ in 2023.
We already have lots of ways we can reduce our need to print and lots more future changes planned:
- RSMS Mobile
- Online learning and employee onboarding processes
- Cargo document pack efficiencies and digitisation
- Digitising more of our processes and communications
Before you click 'Print' next time, ask yourself:
- Do you REALLY need to print?
- Can you view, display or present your content digitally?
- Can you print double sided and/or in black and white?
- Do we really need another printer?
We already monitor printing across our business, tracking how much we are printing and why we are printing. From now on, we’ll be sharing a monthly update on how we are tracking against our 15% target and identifying where we can aim to make the biggest savings.
On World Environment Day, remember that together, we can all help reduce our environmental impacts and reach our goals.
