MORSE Week #1 wrap up

16 May 2022

In a very busy and challenging period for aviation, it was truly inspiring to see some of the fantastic activities and initiatives at our stations during MORSE Week. Thank you to all our leaders and colleagues across the globe for their commitment and engagement with this initiative.

Our focus for the week was to reinvigorate, inspire and influence the behaviours that will ultimately lead to preventing incidents and support our teams as flight volumes recover.

This included a focus on the promotion of our industry-leading safety principles of Menzies, Operating, Responsibly, Safely & Effectively – MORSE.

This was one of the most successful MORSE focus periods that we have ever seen:

  • Traffic to the WeAreMenzies.com MORSE Week pages and news articles increased significantly.
  • Of the users subscribed to the MORSE Week 2022 Teams, there were 567 active participants, 168 posts, 152 replies, 12 mentions and 934 reactions and counting as more people post.
  • More stations starting to use Frictionless/Swift “MORSE” reporting tool, resulting increased Hazard reports whilst Near misses decreased.
  • 65% increase of SMART excellences awarded, recognising, and reinforcing positive behaviour.

On the final day of MORSE Week we asked every business unit to award a certificate for the best excellence raised so far in 2022. We will continue to gather the awards during May and celebrate these achievements by selecting the best submissions for this year’s GHI Pride of Ground Handling awards.

From the entire group risk team, thank you all for sharing the MORSE mindset. It was great to see more than 80 of the senior leadership team getting involved in the activities and spending time listening to and supporting our teams at 168 locations. We’ve put together a highlights video from the week, for you to view and share with your teams, colleagues and customers.
