Fly in fly out operation supports new Hobart to Hong Kong route

21 January 2021

Menzies colleagues from stations across mainland Australia have set up a new ‘fly in, fly out’ operation at Hobart in Tasmania, in response to a request from customer Cathay Pacific. Since the operation began on 16 December, the Menzies team has handled nine flights, using equipment brought in from Melbourne.

With no permanent station at Hobart Airport, Menzies ground handlers are working on a rotational basis, spending up to six days at Hobart before returning to their usual station.

This is not the first time Menzies has adapted its service to set up fly in, fly out operations in Australia and this latest venture looks set to open up new opportunities for Menzies, Cathay Pacific and Hobart Airport.

The seasonal operation will run between December and February transporting fresh food products direct from the island state to Hong Kong using a chartered B777 passenger aircraft.
