Christopher Devaney achieves top accountancy accolade

Menzies’ Director - Commercial Finance, Christopher Devaney, has been recognised as one of ICAS’s Top 100 Young Chartered Accountants.

Christopher was recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) for his professional achievements both as an employee of Menzies, and previously Ernst and Young (EY), and his voluntary work as a non-executive director of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

“It’s nice to be recognised for hard work,” says Christopher, who started his career in Glasgow where he studied Accounting and Finance. After graduating from university, he took an internship with EY and then spent 18 months working in the USA and UK before taking up a full-time position back at EY and completing his accountancy qualification.

He joined Menzies in 2015 as Finance Manager, based in Edinburgh. “It was a big change from working in a consultancy, I made the mistake of wearing a tie on my first day and was quickly told ‘it’s a nice tie, but we don’t wear them around here’ by my manager David Trollope!”

David has supported Christopher throughout his five years at Menzies. “He’s always presented me with opportunities and challenges, and I’ve enjoyed being kept busy. I like being out in the operation and really understanding our business,” continues Christopher, “I support the commercial team on global deals, so it’s key that I know exactly how Menzies operates.”

Christopher is now based at our MW1 office at London Heathrow and supports our European Fuels, and UK and Ireland Cargo businesses, as well as managing our European credit control function and providing financial advice on global commercial deals.
