Fuelling up at Edmonton

19 May 2020

The fuels team at Edmonton, Canada, have been adapting their service to focus on a growing number of cargo flights while passenger flights are running a reduced schedule.

On 5th May, new regular flights to Wuhan (operated by Beijing Capital Airlines) and to London Heathrow (operated by British Airways) from Edmonton began. Both airlines utilised passenger aircraft to transport cargo – marking a step-change for the fuels team.

Marc Day, Station Manager, explains; “As all Menzies operations around the world, we have been hit hard by the reduction in flights and volumes. Our team in Edmonton are happy to assist with the additional cargo flights carrying essential supplies for those frontline workers who are in need. Usually we fuel an Antonov cargo plane every couple of months, but now we’re on target to fuel a couple of cargo flights a week that are carrying important supplies in place of hundreds of passengers. It’s great to see the operation and the team adapting as they have.”
