Recover

Taking some time out to recover is essential for your wellbeing, particularly your mental wellbeing. Too much work and not enough play can contribute to problems such as burn out, anxiety and depression. Taking time to rest and recover on a regular basis can help reduce your stress levels, help you be more productive and even boost your self-esteem.

Why it matters?    why

  • Studies show that taking time away from your job can have physical and mental health benefits.

  • People who take their days off, vacations or regular breaks have lower stress, a better outlook on life and more motivation to achieve goals.

  • Time away can help you feel refreshed and more prepared to handle whatever comes when you return.

  • When your mind and body are not rested properly, decision-making can be really difficult.

Steps to take    steps

  • Release tension - release your shoulders from your ears, unclench your jaw, remove your tongue from the roof of your mouth and take a deep breath.

  • Take a break - if you’re stuck on a task, walking away for a short while can provide you with a fresh perspective.

  • Plan a fun activity - plan to do something in your break that you enjoy – the anticipation of pleasure will motivate you to keep to the break.

  • Switch off your brain - activities that help your brain switch off from life's pressures are a great way to spend your 'me' time.

  • Pay attention to any benefits - you experience when you take a break – this will lodge in your mind and motivate you to take breaks in future.

  • Move away from your workplace - get away from your work space during lunch to help you clear and reenergize your mind.
